Chicago Interview
Hi guys, my husband has his i-485 interview today at 8:30am.
We arrived by 7:40ish and we were waiting for our interpreter. Yes, we brought one and he was great. All those questions on i-485 are hard to understand if you do not speak english well. I definitely recommend bringing an interpreter if your spouse is not that fluent in english.

We got called in around 8:15am and as soon as we got in all three of us did the oath.

He asked me to confirm my name, address, birthdate, where I worked then asked my husband for his information as well as what visa he came on, when, and why he came to the US.

Then he moved onto the i-485. He didn't ask all the questions, but like 15-20 of them. This took the longest.

He then asked how we met, where we met, when we got into a relationship, who proposed, where we got married, who attended and if i we met each others family (when and where).

He then asked for joint documents, I gave them car insurance, lease, xfinity, comed, phone bill, joint bank accounts, credit cards and statements.

He then asked for any photos, I walked him through our photo album and he asked if he could take some. He took pictures of me and his family, him with my family, my parents with his parents, and our trip to vegas.

He then stated it was over and handed us the white sheet of paper. I asked him when we would know the results, he stated we would hear back in 4-6 weeks. He needs to review our files to make sure he has everything before he approves. If something is missing he will send a RFE and we would receive it in 1-2 weeks. He stated if i don't get an RFE in 1-2 weeks then I should be good.

He is on a J-1 and we were really worried about his waiver because we didn't get it yet. The IO didn't ask about his J-1 visa or ask for his waiver. We are thinking maybe because on his passport he is not subject to it, but on his DS2019 it does. We don't know but we were really glad he didn't ask about it/for it.

I think the interview went well. Officer was a little stern looking at first, but when i explained to him our story he smiled and was very nice.

Now our waiting game begins on when we actually get approved.. sigh. I hope it only takes a few weeks. I read alot of people are STILL waiting for a response and it's been over 6 months.

Good luck to you all and let me know if you have any questions!
