I-485 Marriage Based Timeline (Chicago)
Hello again, dear forum dwellers :)
The hardest part of my immigration journey finally came to an end.
Today I received my Green Card in mail and I’m finally free to pursue a career in the field that i always wanted to. First of all, some background:
I’m a filer from Ukraine, my wife is the US born citizen. I came here on F-1 visa for the Master’s degree. Our case wasn’t extremely complicated, except:
-I worked without authorization for a while and , therefore, violated the F-1 status. Nevertheless, I was officially employed and always payed taxes from my salary
-I got 2 speeding tickets for 3.5 years of being here. Both of them were pretty nasty. One is 24 over, another one 37 over. I talked myself out of serious troubles both times, took care of both of them in court, and both of them didn’t go on my record. I still brought certified court dispositions to the interview and the officer was happy to take them.
-I have prior military service in my home state with honorable discharge, explosive and firearms training, and combat experience.
Some of you may ask why I’m going that deep, but since everything was honestly disclosed in the Federal Forms, this information isn’t confidential anymore, and my perspective might give some pace of mind to people, who might have worked without authorization or have other similarities to my case. Just make sure you never claim to be the US Citizen ANYWHERE, cause in that case you’re toast.
My timeline is as follows:
1) Filed I-130, I-131, I-485 and I-765 (03/07/2019)
2) Case was received (03/11/2019)
3) Fingerprint appointment scheduled for 04/01/2019, but I did a walk-in on 03/25/2019
4) Fingerprint review was completed (03/26/2019)
5) Case is ready to be scheduled for an interview (04/03/2019)
6) EAD expedition request based on the financial loss to my employer (06/14/2019)
7) EAD expedition was stuck, so I contacted our local Congresswoman and shortly thereafter my EAD was approved (07/22/2019)
8) EAD card received (07/27/2019)
9) I-485 interview was scheduled (08/06/2019)
10) I-485 interview letter received (08/12/2019)
11) I-485 interview (09/12/2019)-Case must be reviewed
12) Green Card is in production (09/13/2019)
13) I-130 and I-485 approved (09/16/2019)
14) Green Card was mailed (09/17/2019)
15) Green Card received (09/19/2019)
That’s all, folks :) If you have any further questions, I’ll be more than happy to answer them. Good luck everyone and I hope everyone finds their way with the overloaded immigration system and receive good news soon.
