I-485 interview completed and case must be reviewed
Hi all,
I have been a silent observer here for a while and decided to post today. Thank you all for sharing your experiences - they have been incredibly helpful in giving me peace of mind and keeping me informed.
I just did my marriage-based interview at the Manhattan USCIS office yesterday morning (Nov 26th), and last night my status was changed to "Interview completed and case must be reviewed" - Has anyone else had this experience before? What does this mean?
My timeline:
Married to a Permanent Resident
PD: May 26th, 2016
AOS Filed: Jan 30th, 2018
Biometrics: Feb 2018
EAD 1: June 2018
EAD Renewal filed: Jan 18th, 2019
Case Scheduled for Interview: August 16th 2018
EAD 2: Sept 4th, 2019
Interview: Sept 26th, at 7:15AM
Interview experience: We arrived early, and waited for the building to open. Once in, we went to the waiting area (7th floor), and were called for our interview within 10 minutes of arriving. The interview itself was quick and painless.
The IO asked about additional information about our marriage, since we had applied 3 years ago she wanted to make sure we were still married. We provided photos, rental property lease, timeshare deeds, financial documents, joint tax return, etc. She didn't ask many other questions about our marriage (only whether my parents had attended the wedding, which they didn't as we're estranged).
After that, she did the security question (she picked about 15 our of the 50+ questions), and asked about my previous visa status (H1B). She asked for proof that I was under an H1B visa, and I provided my H1B approval notice. She asked if I had an employment letter from this employment, and I didn't, but did have their 2018 W2s (I actually left that job after I applied for my adjustment of status).
Our attorney asked at the end if everything looked good, and she said yes but they just wanted to review things, and gave us a white paper saying they reserved the right to review it for 120 days. Our attorney said this was normal, but he had never seen the status change to "Interview completed and the case must be reviewed" before. He said normally his other clients would get the white paper, but the case would be approved in the next few days to a week (rarely with any on-the-spot approvals).
Let me know if this has happened to you! I would love to hear if there are any others who have experienced this or something similar.
