Interview Experience
Hello all,

I would like to share our experience with the I-485 AOS interview we had this morning. Because of the huge concern that I had about one of our documents over the last two days and not being able to find a good answer for it in different forums I promised myself that I would share my experience here so other people will not face the level of stress I had.

My husband and I attended the interview today and it was on Saturday (2 days ago) that my husband realized that our medical exam, form I-693, was expired two months ago. We literally freaked out and got so stressed. We started to look online especially on the USCIS website. We found that as on November 2018 they have extended the validity of the form from 1 year to 2 years and based on the different scenarios that they described our form was eligible for two years of validity (we had the civil surgeon signed our medical forms less than 60 days of our submission and we submitted the I-485 package not more than 60 days of the tests). These are well explained on the USCIS website. However, it said somewhere that the officer still might ask for a new updated form!! AND the experiences that other people shared in some forums showed that they were asked for new medical test and RFE has been sent to them in most cases.

Anyways, I know that in worst case scenario we will be asked to send the updated I-693 later but you know after waiting for more than one year you don't want anything to delay the process even for a week. There was nothing we could do, it was too late and we even could not contact our lawyer because of the time difference we had with him. We went to the interview with all these thoughts and being so worried. We literally took 2 backpacks full with documents we were asked in the notice and had read on the website :)

We arrived at the USCIS 30 min early and were asked to sit and wait. After 10 min they asked my Husband to go to another room. His interview took about 15 min and then they called my name. There were two persons in the room, an USCIS officer who was sitting on the other side of the room and another officer who asked the questions and reviewed my documents. The interview was started with general questions (name, birthday, place of born, my parents names and their birthdays, marriage date and place, my husband birthday) and tons of yes/no questions. At the end he said that I don't see any issue with your application and everything looks fine. He stamped my passport and said that the actual card will be mailed to you in 7-10 days. I was so surprised that he did not ask for any other documents and it seems that the 2 year validity of the I-693 is also true.

In general, I think the interview was very smooth and friendly. All you need to do id to make sure you have the documents they asked for (because you never know) and in case of the medical exam, just check the USCIS to see what is your category if you applied before or after November 2018. We did the medical test in June 2018 and submitted the application (including the medical exam) in July 2018.

Good luck everyone, I hope all of you succeed at this process....
