Interview experience- Chicago office
Hello,
I wanted to share my journey with you. I had my interview on 09/30/19. Here is my timeline so far:
Marriage based to USC. Chicago office. NSC Center.
PD: 04/01/19
Biometric fee accepted: 04/11/19
Biometric appointment: 05/01/19
Ready to schedule interview: 07/24/19
Interview notice: 08/21/19
Interview date: 09/30/19
Concurrently with I-485, I filed I-765 and I-130. Both of them are stuck at:”your case was received” dated 04/11/19.
I completed the interview but no EAD yet.

Interview was pretty quick and friendly. It was more of a friendly chat than an interrogation type of conversation. I hired an attorney because I overstayed my F1 visa for quite a while. For the most part attorney stayed in the background.
IO took a picture of me and fingerprints from both my index fingers. We were asked about our IDs and both of my passports ( current and expired one), then immigration officer asked my husband how we met. Then he asked me about our address. Then IO asked my husband about his work and then again asked me about what I do for living. Next it was yes/no questions from I-485 (about 10 of them). Then he asked my attorney about bona fide marriage documents. We gave her all we had prior to the interview. She passed everything to him. He briefly looked at it and said: you will get a conditional GC since your marriage is less than 2 years. IO asked my attorney if we were explained what conditional GC means. And that was about it. IO said I should receive approval notice within 3 to 4 weeks.
Feel free to ask me all the questions. This forum helped me so much through my journey that I want to give back now. My advice is to not stress too much but go prepared. And do not always trust what the status on USCIS website says. I already had a notice of the interview in hand and the status said “ready to be scheduled” for a quite a while.
Good luck to all of you!
