Interview Experience at Columbus Field Office - June 2019 Concurrent Filer
Update time! We had our interview today at 9 AM at the Columbus Field Office.
We got approved!!! Our IO was a super nice and funny woman. She knew our lawyer well and told us they will do a quick background check on my husband since she hadn't had the time to do it, and when it comes back she will send our approval out.
Our interview was crazy relaxed. I know many people don't have this experience, but I'm blessed that it was so easy. My mom, husband, and lawyer met up at the field office at 8:45 and then we walked in. Our lawyer checked us in and my mom came with us since my lawyer told her there's nothing wrong with her coming. We waited about 15 minutes and then a woman came out and our lawyer asked, "How do you want them?" and the IO said, "Husband first!". It was kind of funny and casual. My husband went in first and took the oath, then she asked some questions like these:
Standard questions from I485 form about visa, terrorist questions, etc.
What's your full name and date of birth?
What's your spouse's full name and date of birth?
Where was your spouse born?
Who was the Sponsor and Joint Sponsor?
Who do you live with?
How many pets do you have? What are their names? What breed are the dogs? (We sent in a lot of pictures of family and us with our pets)
What's your wife's major? Where does she go to college at?
How many people live in your house?
What are some career prospects that you would like to look into?
If he wanted to study here, what would he like?
She never asked him how we met since I sent in a 17-page document that had a timeline of when we met when I was 14 all the way until we were married. I assume she looked at it before calling him in. She took our folder we brought with more supporting documents and noticed I made a table of contents for everything, so she grabbed the documents she wanted and handed it back in. She was joking and laughing the whole way through the interview with him. When he came out, she called me in and my husband said I didn't need our folder since she took everything. After that was my turn.
I walked in and took the oath. Afterward, she stated the last 4 of my social and asked me to repeat and confirm my social again. Then she asked me questions such as:
My full name and date of birth
My husband's full name and date of birth
Where I was born?
Who is your joint sponsor? Do you live with him?
Then she rattled off the names of people who lives in my house and asked me if it was correct, then asked, "What other furry four-legged critters live with you? And I answered the animals that I live with, their names, and breeds.
She asked my major and where I went to college. She asked what my husband has been thinking about doing academically if he gets his green card.
As she was asking these questions, I noticed she was checking off different things she had written down, probably the answers he had given her. Everything was checked off.
She then asked about my major and where I go to college. She was genuinely interested in my major and minor and how I wanted to incorporate them together. She told me stories of when she took a geology class (my major) and how she used to lick the rocks. The whole time everyone was so nice and laughing. It felt like I was talking to a friend weirdly. At the end, she told me that if it was allowed, she would've approved us just based on documents alone because we are some of the few who submit a story of the relationship and how it organically evolved. She said that she had interviews all day today and tomorrow, but will get his background check done on Friday and then approve us if it comes back clean (which it will). She gave a white piece of paper but said we should see his 2-year conditional green card within a month and then we can apply for his SS card. I'm so relieved and happy about everything. It went so well. I'll update when he has it in hand or if the case status updates! I will be on this forum for others too and plan to still update. Thanks, everyone for your support! I hope it goes very well for all of you!
