First H1b Experience Calgary 10/24/2019
Hi All,
My wife and I went to Calgary for our first H1b stamping(My H1b and wive's H4). We had our appointment on Oct 24th at 9:20 am.
We went 30 minutes prior as asked and were greeted by the security guard who asked if we had any cellphone or electronic items. There were a few people in front of us and they had small bags, for which he asked them to keep outside and directed them to a storage. Since we had none of those articles, we went inside into the line where we had to verify our documents-Passport, Proof of Canada and Ds-160 copy along with our passport size photographs.
After our document verification, we were made to sit in a small room along with other applicants in line. They were taking one line at a time to the upper floor.
Our turn came and we were escorted by guards into the elevator into another room with a few counters. We proceeded to counter 1 as directed and there the lady verified our documents again and said that the photos were not accepted as the background was off white and also had a shadow behind. She stuck a yellow sticker on both of our passports and gave a photograph slip and written our passport number and name and asked us to move forward.
We then headed to second counter where our fingerprinting was done and made to proceed to third counter where there was actual interviews happening. There were 3 counters, the left most being easiest and fastest, there was a white male everyone there was moving out very happy and quickly, the middle counter people were taking longer time and were asked more questions, the person was a brown lady and the right most was taking longest times along with 221Gs. Our turn came and we were asked to move to the left most counter.

VO: Can I see your passport and i797?

VO: Can I see your marriage certificate?

VO: What work will you do at your employer?
Answered
VO: You both seem to be Software Developers, I am approving your visa, just that you will have to submit your new photograph.
Hands us a Yellow 221G and asks to submit photograph. We went to nearest London Drugs and got our photo taken and then submitted our photo to a security guard at entrance.
He asked us to write our names and DOB on the back of the photograph. We wrote and gave him the pictures and he then, after taking our photographs asked us to leave.
Our First Case Update was on Oct 28, 2019
Status: Administrative Processing
We are still waiting- Its been 5 days since last updated. We are now starting to panic, not sure how long its going to take.
