My Immigration Process
With an approval received yesterday, I finally came to the end of my immigration ORDEAL (near end with the card still in production). Just want to share my entire immigration process, so to prove Anything That Might Go Wrong Will Go Wrong. :(

My category is EB1C (L1 visa) filed in Chicago
2016.11.26: I-140 Submitted.
2017.11.07: I-140 Approved.
2017.12.11: I-485 Submitted.
2018.01.23: Fingerprint Collected.
2018.04.06: Form J requested, and I submitted in about 1 week later.
2018.05.29: Advanced Parole Granted.
2018.10.31: Interview Scheduled on Dec 11.
2018.12.11: Interview Held in Chicago Office.

So far, everything looks promising. The interview process was plain and no surprises, somewhat boring. I brought loads of documents, and the IO only checked our passports and notary documents.
The real ORDEAL started after the interview. The IO officer said because my PD was not current, they would send our case to TEXAS (start of torture) until my PD became current. He didn’t think there would be any issues with my case but will leave to the officer in TX to make the final decision.
My PD became current in Jan, 2019. My lawyer said I should get my approval in a few weeks. I waited, weeks, and months, until end of Mar. Nothing happened. So:

2019.03.31: I contacted the congresswoman’s office to help enquire on my case.
2019.04.07: Congresswoman’s office replied: Chicago should have sent your case to National Benefit Center (NBC) as the new rule, but they sent it to TX as the old rule specified. It is on it’s way to NBC now…SO I WAITED.
2019.04.10: Online status was updated to “Your Case is received by your local office”.
2019.04.21: Received a notice to renew my Medical Report. I was confused because if the report was valid on the date of interview, people shouldn’t be asked to renew the report after interview. For safer reasons, my family still had another test and got new report….SO I WAITED.
2019.05.01: Get congresswoman’s office to help make enquiry. The answer was: Ignore that medical report renewal notice, which was a mistake. Besides, my document did not go to NBC, rather, it was sent back to Chicago Office, and they will send my documents to NBC now, and I should get the approval soon… SO I WAITED.
2019.08.01: Nothing happened in 3 months. Congresswoman’s office helped again. Answer was: Oh, Chicago has mailed your document to National STORAGE Center by mistake, thinking your case was closed. They will send it to NBC soon.
2019.08.12: I called in USCIS and verified if that has happened. Guess what people on the phone told me: Oh, Chicago office sent your case to the National STORAGE Center, again, treating it as a closed case!!!! (You can imagine that I uttered 1000 F-words in my mind).
2019.08.13: Talked to the congresswoman’s office, who called NBC directly. Thanks God, the lady who answered the phone commiserated my experience and offered to go pick up my documents from National Storage Center (a few blocks away from NBC) and bring it to NBC directly.
2019.08.16: My case proved to be sitting in NBC.
2019.09.01: Green Card quota for 2019 fiscal year was over for my category, so they can’t approve my case before the new fiscal year.
2019.10.01: New fiscal year started, but my PD was not current any more.
2019.11.01: PD became current again, and the congresswoman’s office helped to make another enquiry. The answer was my case was with an officer now.
2019.11.22: My case status was updated to “New Card is in Production” and then “Case Was Approved”.

So that’s my entire ordeal. I want to share this with you so you know anything might go wrong in this process. No hard feeling with USCIS, and I know their workload is huge and mistakes do happen. My recommendation is to closely monitor and verify if your case is, at least, in the right location and the right hand. Good Luck!!
