Public Charge
Public charge is a determination USCIS makes before or after your green card interview in which they believe you will become primarily reliant on the government to live. An applicant deemed a public charge will likely have their green card case denied.

It used to be that USCIS only considered a few factors that would make an alien a public charge, such as institutionalization for long-term care. Now the Trump Administration, in an effort to curb even legal immigration, is redefining what public charge means to include aid such as food stamps and Medicaid and will consider factors such as age and education.

In other words, more green card applicants will face denials.

Just know the new (harsher) public charge rule will NOT apply to you if have already mailed your green card application (e.g. I-485, I-130, I-765, etc.) or will be mailing it before February 24, 2020.
