RFIE 864 Petitioning sponsor did not file tax return
I am the Petitioning sponsor for my husband's adjustment of status. We have a co-sponsor who has provided tax return and W2.

I was a full time student in 2018. I used to work part time at my college under the federal work study program. I made about $1100. Was I required to file taxes in 2018?

In 2019 I got married. My husband is a foreign citizen and he was not authorized to work in 2019. I made about $2600 in 2019 as I worked at a school as teacher assistant. This year we are planning to file jointly. I am wondering since we have made only $2600, if we are required to pay federal taxes.

Recently I applied for my husband’s green card. The USCIS has sent us a Request for Evidence asking if I filed taxes in 2018 and 2019 and if not, for a written explanation. I am going to answer that I made too little to file taxes in 2018 and 2019. Do you think I am correct? Thanks in advance.
