Interview experience - Columbus, OH
Adjustment of status based on marriage to USC.
NBC, field office: Columbus, OH
We had our interview today and I wanted to share our experience. My husband and I were scheduled for the interview at 11:15 AM. We arrived at the field office around 10:40 AM. We went through security, checked in (they took my photo and fingerprints), were given a number and asked to wait. There were two other couples in the waiting room before us, and we were the first ones to be called in.
Our IO walked us in to her room, asked for our IDs, told us the interview will be recorded, and swore us in. She started with me and asked for:
My legal first name, and if I have used any other names.
Place and country of birth, and citizenship.
Current address (this address is on my husband's license, he renewed it recently) and how long I have lived there.
Previous address (this is on my license).
Where I work.
First time and most recent time I entered the US.
She then asked my husband for his name, place of birth, current address, and where he works.
She went over the Yes/No questions from the I-495 with me. I have never worked illegally and never had any run in with the law, but I did mention that I had a speeding ticket and a parking ticket from 2016. She said those didn't matter.
Then we got to the more personal questions about how we met. It was mostly conversational, with some banter. We told her we met on Bumble, and she remarked how I should have started the conversation then. My husband said I had just texted 'hey', but I said I bet it was more than that and mentioned it had been almost four years since that had happened. We had submitted about 30 photos with the initial application and we have traveled together a lot since, so the IO asked about some of them.
She asked if we had a big wedding, and we said we only got married at the courthouse with a friend officiating. We told her we were having an actual ceremony with our families later this year in Scotland, and she was surprised. My husband explained that his grandfather was from there, and that it was a good mid point for his family to go from here and for mine to travel to from India. She asked us if we had already gone on our honeymoon, we said we were going to after the ceremony.
She also asked if we did anything special after our courthouse wedding, we said we went back to the place where we had our first date for a meal. We've kept it low key, since our actual ceremony is later this year.
She then asked us if we had any questions for her. My husband said no, and I asked what the next steps would be. She told us that she had everything she needed, which she will review and then do a background check. If everything came back ok we would get a letter within a week. From reading this forum I knew that was what most people were told, so I was not concerned. At some point during this she stopped recording the interview. I gave her some additional documentation, and she said she didn't need any more pictures. She made me sign the interview completion form and walked us out.
We went to get some lunch and I checked the online status after about a half hour. I saw an update that a 'New card is being produced!' We came home and checked the status of the I-130, which still says "Interview Was Completed And My Case Must Be Reviewed", but we're not too worried.
We did not use a lawyer to file the paperwork, and also did not get any RFEs.
Lawfully was NOT accurate for our case. According to the app our approval was most likely to come through between July 12 and October 10, but here we are!
