We did not hire a lawyer. We did all the research by ourselves. All the information you need to file is on the USCIS website. I worked without authorization and had a criminal case that was dismissed through deferred adjudication in 2015.
The officer just asked my husband what my name was and my date of birth and asked me the same. Then he asked the yes or no questions. After that he asked us to tell him our story. He didn’t ask for any originals or anything. Just the i693 and if we had anymore documents to give him. We gave joint banks statements, my husband’s pay stubs, 401k beneficiaries, joint gym membership. Then he said that was enough but we added our joint tax return. Then he said he will run a systems check and everything looks good he will approve it. And he did an hour later.
