AOS Experience San Jose
Hey Friends,

I have been a silent observer on this forum and have immensely benefitted from the discussions here. In times of anxiety or impatience, you guys were all here with inputs to provide and experiences to share, i thank you all!

I got my GC yesterday. Reading through the posts here the past few weeks, i had decided as i would give back to this community once i get my GC in the form of sharing my experience and some analytics i ran to calm my nerves (kip to the end of the post for details)

High level application details as follow

Married to USC
Applied in Mat 2019
Interview in Feb week 1 in San Jose.

Interview experience :
I'm generally and extrovert and quite confident in a public setting, but for some reason i was very, very nervous through the interview. I was interviewed by a lady officer who was terse but courteous. She made us take the oath, and very diligently flipped through every single page in the application binder, making sure all the details were correct. She then went through the yes/no questions and asked for supporting evidence. We provided bank statements, pictures (lots of pictures, going back 6 years of dating), car lease agreements, residence proof, health insurance etc.
She then gave us a white paper that said application needs to be reviewed further. This was a total shocker for us. From the (very little) research that i had did before (admittedly not in immihelp) made me feel like i should be expecting a decision on the spot. Getting the white paper definitely shocked us both and we came us very anxious and disappointed.

The next few days were spent combing through several forums and trying to learn more. What i learned was :
1) Same day approvals only common for people who enter on K1 visa, quite rare for other cases
2) San jose FO is very busy and the processing times can be comparably longer
3) I did some research on a different website where a lot of people post their timelines and compiled some statistics to give me an idea of what typical processing time vs not.

Analytics :
I'm an engineer and i love data! If you look closely, you'll find patterns in data that lead to answers :)
based on reading through hundereds of experiences for people from SJ office, here's what i compiled : https://imgur.com/zAH8BNw

In case the link doesn't work, it is imgur[dot]com[slash]zAH8BNw.
Its a histogram of processing time between interview and when the decision is made at SJ FO. As you can see:
- 67% of cases are decided on in 7 days or less
- 81% (67+14) of cases are decided in 21 days or less
- 93% (67+14+9+3) of the cases are decided in 100 days or less

So this told me that there is basically no cause for concern if i don't hear back for 21 days. I should be somewhat worried if i don't get a decision in 21 days and a little more worried if i don't get a decision in 100 days.

So i was counting days until 21 and on day 14 my online status changed to "card in production"

This data helped calm my nerves, and i hope it helps you too. Even if your processing time is beyond 100 days, note that this data may have errors and you don't know if there are any egregious issues with those cases that take longer.

its easier said than done, but based on my experience, i encourage you all to stay patient and keep faith in God and the just American System!

Sending prayers and good vibes over to everyone on this forum. May your applications be approved at the earliest and without any hurdles!
-Kosmik!
