Adjustment of Status Full Timeline
Hey there,

as a silent reader for many months, I just wanted to say thank you for everyone posting their timeline and any tips and tricks. It's been incredibly helpful in preparing both the application and the interview, so we wanted to give back by sharing our own timeline.

I'm a J-1 holder, married to a USC. Field office: Chicago. Never received an EAD.

Application submitted: Nov 8, 2019
Notification via email: Nov 15, 2019
I-797C received via mail: Nov 21, 2019
Notification of Biometrical Appointment: Nov 30, 2019
Biometrics taken: Dec 2, 2019 (early walk-in without any problems)
Fingerprints received by USCIS: Dec 3, 2019
Ready to be scheduled: Jan 16, 2020
Interview was scheduled: Jan 24, 2020
Interview Date received via mail: Jan 31, 2020
Interview Date: Mar 3, 2020
New Card is being produced: Mar 3, 2020 (roughly 3 hours after the interview)

I watched a lot of youtube videos etc to prepare the application and sent the medical exam WITH the original application. The more information you can get them upfront, the better. They didn't even ask for any additional documents at the interview as they had enough in front of them, and just asked where and how we met and when we decided to get married (plus I-485 Yes/No questions).

Thanks to this forum I was confident enough to file without an attorney (we paid one for a single hour to look over our complete application, he had some good insight right before filing). You definitely don't need one if your case is easy!

Again, thank you all for sharing your experience, and best of luck to everyone still applying!
