EAD (WorkPermit)

My husband petitioned for me in July 2018, at the time he was still a permanent resident. However he became a US citizen in July 2019 and then we filed for my adjustment of status along with my EAD application. We did get an interview scheduled for March, 17 but unfortunately the interview was canceled due to the outbreak. My EAD application is still pending, after 8 months, I’ve put in numerous service requests, tried to expedite my case and even reached out to my congressman for assistance; but to no avail, nothing seemed to speed up my employment authorization application . Today I spoke to a tier 2 officer, who was extremely rude! He said the reason it’s still processing is because our petition is currently under extended review, it’s been pending for nearly 20 months now. To my knowledge; as well as what they have told me, the petition has fallen out of normal processing time, and so has the i-765 application; what do they mean by extended review, and at this point should I see a lawyer to help me with my case?
