My GC journey
I came to the US in July 2017 on F1 (student) Visa. Married my now husband in Feb 2018 who is a legal permanent resident.

Feb 2018: i-130 (category of application F2A)

My AOS timeline is as follows:

Filed Office: Salt Lake City

Processing center: NBC

July 2019: Sent i-485, i-765, i-131

August 2019: i-130 was transferred from California service center to NBC

Sept 2019: Received RFE requesting proof of my husband’s citizenship.
I am married to LPR and my application category was F2A, not an immediate relative. God knows why would they ask me for his proof of citizenship. It was certainly a mistake. I just wrote them a letter explaining my situation and sent a copy of my husband’s GC.

Sept 2019: response to RFE received.

Long wait……

Jan 2020: Expedited EAD and AP
Jan 2020: Case ready for Interview
Feb 2020: EAD approved and Received combo card
Feb 2020: interview scheduled

March 16, 2020: Interview day

We waited for 20 mins and were called in. Fortunately, we were NOT separated. Took oath and IO initiated the interview by asking us for more evidence to prove our marriage. We took enough documents and IO was impressed with the quality and quantity. IO kept saying enough and we kept giving more and more. Every document we gave was taken by the IO and kept in our file including 250 photos of us with friends and family.

List of documents we got:
• Joint tax
• Joint bank account statements f
• Joint credit cards copy and statement
• Lease
• Document showing my husband as a cosigner for my student loan
• Combined Insurance: Health, vision, dental and auto
• Proof of us listed as a beneficiary for each other’s 401K
• Proof of us listed as an emergency contact at our respective workplace
• Social media posts from FB and Insta
• 250 pictures with friends and family (details were written at the back of each picture)
• Notarized letters from 5 friends who attended our wedding celebrations
• Itinerary of trips and hotel reservation (We has taken 12 trips together after marriage)
• Random posts/mails addressed to both of us with the same residential address
• We are both listed as each other’s spouse on our passports
• All our government ID (state ID, driver’s license) mentions the same address to prove cohabitation.
• Cannot remember what else we got

We spent almost 30 mins going through the documents. We then went through i-130 and i-485. We were asked about each other’s DOB and our parent’s name.
In the end, we were asked only one question ‘How did you guys meet?’. Everything lasted for approx. 40 mins. IO approved us on the spot. However, IO wasn’t sure if the visa was available since I belonged to a preference category. We were not given any white paper, neither did we sign any document at all. The interview ended and IO escorted us out. IO was very formal throughout the interview process and but was kind to us.

Dead silence for a month. My status did not change at all. I decided to do an SR for my i-130 a month after my interview since I was waiting for more than 2 years now. I was transferred to a very kind tier 2 officer who agreed to do an SR. In the next two days, i-130 was approved.

April 17, 2020: i-130 approved
April 20, 2020: GC in production
April 21, 2020: i-485 approved

I have tried to be as detailed as possible. We did not hire a lawyer and everything was taken care of by ourselves. Have faith and be patient!!! Good luck to everyone going through this journey.
