My parents had visa at Chennai US consulate on Oct 20 at 9 am. They went to the spot by 8.15 am and they were called in by the secutiry around 8.45 am.

Only 1 question was asked by VO and No documents were asked from my parents.

Dad works in a private hospital as Director currently. He retired from Govt.Service a few years ago. My mom is a retired doctor, currently a homemaker. Mom and dad had their interview in English. VO asked why are you visiting US – For which my dad said “To visit my son in Atlanta”. VO said ‘Great Sir, your wife’s visa is approved. But we are giving you 221g for administrative processing”
Since my dad has a Ph.D in Biotechnology, he was asked to submit resume, documentation on his research topics, dates and fields of research interests. Also they have my dad’s passport with them now. A pink slip was handed over to my dad alone. After coming out, he sent all the required documentation via email. He is still waiting to hear back. VO said that it will take atleast 4 weeks to know the result. But my mom has already got the visa stamped on her passport.
Note – Heard from my dad, that there were many other Ph.D candidates for whom 221g was served.
But I am still wondering what is the link between a Ph.D and Tourist visa. Anyways, hoping for the best and good luck to others.

Cheers,
Kumar
