My parents attended Chennai consulate and granted visitor visa for 10 years. Posting our interview experience.
We scheduled the interview in Tamil. But there was no translator present. The VO himself managed to speak Tamil
VO: vanakkam
Parents: vanakkam
VO: where are you going
Mom: xxxxx, xxxx
VO: what is the purpose
Mom: meet my son and spend time with his family and visit places in USA
VO: to my mom – how many children you have?
Mom: 2 sons
VO: where is the other son?
Mom: working in chennai
VO: to my mom – what are you doing?
Mom: xxxx
VO: to my dad – what are you doing?
Dad: retired from xxxx.
VO: do you receive pension?
Dad: xxxxx
VO: do you own a house in India?
Dad: yes. It is registered on my name.
VO: how long you want to stay?
Mom: 6 months( this is not a very good answer. She had to say it because, in the DS160, I have mentioned it 6 months. My friends said, recommended answer is 2-3 months, to convince the VO that you are going purely for a visit)
Always remember and stick to the information you enter in DS160 ( especially Fathers Profession, Mothers Profession, sponsors legal status, duration of stay, place of visit, intended day of travel, education details etc)
He didn’t ask anything else and said Visa is granted and gave a sheet with phone number to contact to track passport.
