Profession: Working with a fashion retailer
My interview was scheduled at 9:00 AM on 12th July at Mumbai Consulate. I reached at 8:15AM and went through the security check. After that i was asked to wait in an open area with many people already waiting for their turn. Finally we were allowed to enter the interview hall wherein we were issued token numbers and asked to proceed for finger print verification. Only 3-4 counters were open for interviews so it took almost 2 hours before my token number appeared at one of the windows.
VO: Good Morning, how are you?
ME: I am great mam, how are you?
VO: Can i have your passport?
ME: Sure
VO: What is the purpose of your visit?
ME: To meet my friends and explore some of the most popular tourist destinatons in the US, before i join my new employer back here in India (the last statement i believe was very important)
VO: What employer?
ME: Told the name of the company (a telecom conglomerate)
VO: When will u start working with your new employer?
ME: In sept
VO: where are you working now?
ME: Told
VO: Why are you changing your job?
ME: Told some reasons
VO: What will be your salary in your new company?
ME: Told (Its above 12lacs/annum which really helped)
VO:Can i have a copy of the offer letter?
ME: Sure
VO: Tell me about these friends you are visiting
ME: They are doing their MS from xyz university.
VO: Your visa is approved and you wil receive it in 2-3 days.
ME: Thanks mam :)
Initial expectations were it will be rejected for all reasons. However certain things which worked in my favor include:
1) Promise of a good job in India
2) Annual CTC
For people of my age who wish to visit the US for tourism purpose/meet girlfriend-friends, make sure you prove strong reasons to come back which for our generation usually includes a stable job and a high salary. Qualification also matters, for ex MBA/ Bachelors from a reputed institute, which in itself is a proof that you wont indulge in any illlegal immigration activity.
Though i had all the documents, none of them were asked for by the VO.
