H1B, H4 Visa

Background:
I have 15 yrs of experience.Have valid B1 visa. Visited US twice on B1 trip.
This is my first H1B.

Biometrics:
I took the biometrics on 8 Jan 14 and took the visa interview on 9 Jan 14 in Chennai Consulate.
Biometrics was very simple.
My slot was 8:30 but I reached the OFC by 8AM. They allowed me to enter OFC by 8:10.
Please verify your DS160 Confirmation page with your current passport details one more time.
I wrongly updated my birth place.
The OFC biometrics center person identified the mismatch and asked me to update DS160 and get new confirmation page.
The auto-wala prompted for help to update the DS160 and took me to one browsing center which is within 1 km.
He charged 150 rupees for the trip. The lady in the browsing center updated the DS160 form and gave the confirmation page print out and charged 150. :-(
I entered OFC by 8:30 Am and verification and registration of biometrics was done within 10 mins.

Visa Interview on 9 Jan 14:
Carried Visa documents, DS160 confirmation Page, Visa Appointment Letter, Marksheets, Exp Letters, h1b approval documents, resume, 3 months pay slip, 3 year tax return forms, reference list of managers and co-workers with contact numbers.
Carried all of them in a single transparent folder.
No cell phone, no purse, no USB...Carried some cash for 1000 bucks for taxi.

Reached the place by 9:45 AM. They allowed to move in by 10:10...My slot was 10:30 AM.

ME:Yes. I have two kids.
VO:Are you taking them with you to US?
ME:I am going to US first. After 6 months I plan to take them if things are OK.
VO:What were you doing for 3 months in 2006 in your last visit to US?
ME:Answered
VO:Why 3 months is required for System Study/knowledge transfer?
ME:Answered
VO:Your visa is approved. You can collect the passport in OFC later.
ME:Thank you Sir.
He took the passport with him and I left the counter.
