H1B experience in Delhi on 3rd March 2014
Had interview in Delhi at 8:00 AM. Was visiting for stamping of H1B first time since 2008 when I entered US as F1. Never went till today due to several complications. So my status was stamping H1B first time. Few things to note as I did the mistake. Do not carry a bag. I carried and they did not have a facility to store my bag. Anyways the appointment was at 8:00 am. A weird thing I noted was all H1B applicants were asked to provide the original I-797 and DS-160 containing the seal from fingerprint which was stapled to the passport. Well my no. was called and the officer asked me a couple of questions:

VO: Good Morning
Me: Good Morning Sir.
VO: What company do you work for?
Me: Answered accordingly
VO: What do you do.
Me:Answered
VO: Where are you based?
Me: Answered.
VO: Looked at my passport stamp asked me a couple of questions on visa status. He looked at my old F1. He was confused that I was on F1 or EAD etc.
Me: I told him I am not on F1, OPT etc but on H1B
VO Show me your H1B
Me:showed
VO:show me I-129
Me: Showed completed packet
VO:Show your paychecks
Me: Showed all paychecks of a year to be on safeside
VO: Are you a consultant?
ME:No I am a direct hire employee working for my company (ofcourse a very reputed worldwide company)
VO: At the end took my passport stapled with DS-160 and original I-797.

I thought I did well. Later I realized Visa Officer took my original I-797. I was so tensed called up the Embassy in New Delhi and spoke to help line. They told me that original documents taken will be returned back. I asked her when passport was taken along with DS-160 and original I-797 what it meant? I was told that please find the status of your application online or you will be sent a message on phone or by email that you mentioned while preparing the application.

Folks, please help me what about I-797 original document being taken by officer? Why did he take the I-797? I am worried now. If they lose it, I will be screwed pretty badly. Can you please help me guys if you have had similar experience.
