H-4 to F-1 Visa Transfer Experience
I am happy to share this experience as I feel this would benefit more people.
I was pleasantly surprised by the interview experience, cordial talk and the methodical approach by people at Mumbai consulate.
An interview which was faster than I thought it would be and I had the stamp confirmation by the end of 15 minutes.
Very specific questions that I was asked:
1. Why are you doing a second Masters and what is your plan after that.
2. Why are you converting from H-4 to F-1.
3. How do you plan to pay for your tuition.
4. Show the financial documents to support the same.
5. How long would you be on OPT and what are your plans after that.
6. What does your husband do and company he works for.
The gentleman interviewing me was always smiling and welcoming. Treated the anxious moments with patience especially when
I was trying to find required documentation.
I would say 3 things to keep in mind:
1. Smile and tell them the truth.
2. Do not attempt to hide any information and say stuff that can catch you later on.
3. Fill in documentation correctly and clarify if you have any gaps etc. on your visa/ related issues. In short don't lie, and you should
be all good.
