Interview Experience - New Orleans office
Interview was yesterday (August 25th) at 8.30am in New Orleans. We arrived at ~7.45. Waited for a bit and we were told that we can get in line at window 1 at 8.15. At 8.15 we got in line and submitted our appointment letter to a guy who checked a few things and then stapled the form to a receipt of some sort. He also asked who the beneficiary was, and confirmed my last name. He then asked us to take a seat in the waiting area and wait for my name to be called.

At around 8.35, a guy came and called us in, led us to his office and asked us to take a seat. He then asked for my husband’s driver’s license and passport and also asked for my passport. He also asked for any other AP/EAD cards ever issued to me by USCIS. After making sure that what was in the file matched our IDs, he told us to get up and swore us in to tell the truth. Once seated he asked us a few questions:
When did you meet, where and how? My husband answered that (we met in September 2011 in grad school…..)
When was your wedding? Husband answered (IO: So it took you all these years to convince her to marry you? We all laughed)
When did you get engaged? We both answered
IO: I see here that you live separately, wife here in New Orleans, and husband in Georgia.
US: Yes
IO asked us to confirm our addresses for him
IO: How often do you see each other?
Husband: Once or twice a month
IO: Do you fly or drive?
We mostly fly
IO: Do you have some of your flight records that I can add to your evidence file?
We gave him print-outs of our recent flights to see each other.
IO: (To husband) what do you do, and then to me the same question.
We answered both
IO: (To husband) confirmed his place of birth.

He went through the yes/no questions in the I-485 really quick and then asked us to check the signatures on the I-485 and I-131 and confirm that they are ours.
IO said he has approved our application and we should receive he green card in mail in the next 5-10 days. He then went on to explain that it will be a conditional card and we’ll have to apply for removal of conditions 90 days before it expires in 2 years. He then shook our hands and walked us back out to the lounge.

The whole interview lasted about 7-10 minutes and we were out of their office and home by 9.05 am!

My advice to all is to remain truthful and speak with confidence. Also provide as much initial evidence as possible in your application, and be very organized. The officer mentioned that we had given them satisfactory evidence in our application so he did not need the whole stack of additional evidence we had brought to the interview. Also, you never know which one of the documents they will ask for, so just bring everything – it is better to be over-prepared than under prepared.

My husband is the USC and I was adjusting my status from F-1.

Hope this helps! And thank you to all members of this forum
