H1B Visa Experience at Chennai
Big thanks to this forum which helped me gear up for the whole process.

I had scheduled my OFC appointment and Visa Interview in Chennai, Sep 14 and 15

OFC appointment, as all suggest, is a cake walk. It hardly took us 15 mins. Please make sure to carry:
Visa Appointment.
DS-160 confirmation
Passport
2 photos of each applicant (In case your photograph is not clear)
Remember, to read your DS-160 and information mentioned in your DS-160 just so that you feel confident while answering questions.

Next day we had our visa interview at 10 am. I was expecting a huge line hence we went a little early, prepared to stand in queue. But to my surprise, there were hardly 10 people in the queue !!
I had carried all documents like Visa Appointment letter, DS-160 confirmation, Passport, I797, Verification of employment, Salary slips, Resume, Original transcripts and any other document which the VO may ask.

Met a family and they said their Visa was approved. This calmed my nerves.

After initial security checks, we were made to stand in a queue wherein our fingerprints were verified. Remember, this is NOT VO..

We were directed to another queue which had about 20 people and guess what, all of them were for H1B visa. There was a separate queue for B1/F1 visas. Wow!!

I could hear what others were asked. There were about 5 counters operational and one of the window had a lady who was talking pleasantly to all applicants. How I wish we were interviewed by her. We saw 2 applicants being rejected (one was a creq member on a ship). Only thing I could derive from their rejection is that they were not prepared with basic questions. There was a guy who answered "I am going to USA". VO: Yes Sir, I understand, but where in the US. But he had no clue.

We were asked to join a counter wherein the Visa Officer was asking for lot of documents, taking a photo copy of applicants documents and what not..
Our turn came and this guy requested for a 5 min break.. Phew.. He comes back and calls us:

VO: Good morning.
Me and My Spouse: Good morning Sir, how are you doing.
VO: Fine, documents please
Me: Passed on Passports and I797 copy.
VO: How long have you been married:
Me: (Seriously, first question??) Told.
VO: Scanning my passport, Have you been to the US before?
Me: Answered accordingly
VO: Who is your petitioner ?
Me: Answered accordingly..
VO: Was checking something on his screen for 2 mins and then asked what will you do there ?
Me: Explained
VO: What is your salary ?
Me: I was'nt sure if he is asking for US or India so told him the US salary
VO: How much do you make in India ?
Me: Told
VO: Came closer to the window and asked, so do you have a client and will you work at a different location
Me: God knows why I fumbled to answer this. Bu then I immediately brought myself back and explained that I work for a product company and would never work for a third party .
VO to my wife: Ma`am, what is your husbands DOB:
My Wife: Answered.
VO: Can I see a proof of your marriage
Showed him our marriage certificate (original)
He took his own sweet time to match our names and read through the certificate.
VO: Smiled and said, I am approving your Visa, you should get it in 3-4 working days.
We were delighted to hear this and thanked him..

We got our passports with visa attached in about 4-5 days.

Remember to speak the truth and prepare well but not over prepare. I saw couple of people who started answering even before the VO could complete his question.

Good Luck !!
