Please help - travel without green card
Hi All. We are in a strange situation. We never applied for Advanced Parole (I know - big mistake), but our I-485 AOS interview is scheduled. My wife needs to leave the country 3 days after our interview. I heard that we can ask the officer at the interview to stamp her passport with an I-551 stamp (green card stamp), which has the same validity as the actual green card, but I also heard that sometimes they don't give the stamp at the interview.
My two questions are:
1) Assuming her I-485 is approved at the interview, how likely is it for the officer to stamp her passport there?
2) If her I-485 petition is approved at the interview, but her passport isn't stamped with the I-551, then can she leave the country without abandoning the process if I wait here to get her green card and then bring it to her for her to use to re-enter the U.S.?
Thank you very much in advance for your responses.
