Los Angeles Marriage based AOS experience
My Argentine husband and I got married on September 21 and filed to adjust his status with the National Benefits Center also known as MSC. We live in the City of Los Angeles.

We have found the information here to be so helpful, especially in those times where it felt like nothing was happening. We wanted to share our timeline in some detail in hopes that others may benefit as much as we did.

10/13/15. Mailed in I-485 (adjust status), I-131 (advance parole for travel), I-765 (work permit) and I-130 (petition for relative by US citizen).

10/15/15. Priority date (per notices received later).

10/21/15. Notices mailed out that each of our petitions was accepted; also received our first status update by email (having signed up for updates at Uscis.gov); also checks for fees cleared our bank.

10/23/15. Biometrics notice mailed out for 11/22 appointment (never updated on website and no update email ever received--learned about this when it showed up by snail mail, per below).

10/24/15. Received notices of acceptance for cases described above by snail mail.

10/31/15. Biometrics notice received by snail mail.

11/4/15. Successfully "walked in" for biometrics, based on travel plans on scheduled date; officer did ask why we were early but didn't seem especially concerned and had no interest in seeing proof of travel plans offered; took less than an hour.

11/13/15. Inquired of member of Congress about possibility of expediting advance parole travel document based on serious family illness in Argentina (of husband's mom); was told they would try to help if we could provide documentation from Doctor in Argentina.

11/23/15. Provided requested medical documentation from Argentina (in Spanish with translation) to member of Congress's immigration liaison; was told they would seek to expedite.

12/7/15. Received word from Congressman that advanced parole travel document would, in fact, be expedited.

12/9/15. Received email notice of approval of advance parole travel document and, later that same day, email notice that the card was being produced (no mention of work permit in either notice).

12/11/15. Email notice that advance parole travel document had been mailed out (still no mention of work permit); separately received email notice that same day that our interview had been scheduled for 1/12/16; also received snail mail notice of interview (dated 12/9).

12/15/15. "Combo card" (with work permit and advance parole) received in US mail

12/17/15. Took combo card to social security office in Hollywood to apply for card; took less than an hour even without an appointment.

12/22/15. Received social security card in the mail.

Now we're just gathering everything together to get ready for the interview on January 12. We'll keep you posted.

Good luck to everyone! Happy new year!
