Adjustment of Status - I-485

Hi,

This forum helped me a lot, so I want to share my timeline and interview experience. My priority date for marriage based green card was 11/20/2015. I was an F-1 student and did OPT for a year. I married my husband (USC) on September 2015, and we have a two year old son.

Local USCIS office: Mount Laurel, NJ
Application process: 3 Months

Timeline:
11/20/2015: Application received (Priority date)
11/25/2015: Received text and email notice, routed to NBC
11/30/2015: Received 3 receipts notice
12/11/2015: Received Biometrics Appointment notice. Location is at Elizabeth, NJ
12/21/2015: Biometrics done
12/31/2015: I-485 status changed to case is ready to be scheduled for an interview
01/08/2016: I-485 status changed to interview is scheduled for 02/11/2016.
01/11/2016: Received interview notice for 02/11/2016, 9 AM, Mount Laurel, NJ
02/10/2016: I-765 status changed to card is being produced and changed again to card is mailed to me.
02/11/2016: Interview date, and got approved on the spot.
02/11/2016: Received EAD card
02/16/2016: Received I-485 & I-130 approval notice
02/18/2016: I-485 status changed to card was mailed to me
02/19/2016: Received Green Card :)

Interview Experience:
The appointment was at 9 AM. We arrived at 8:40. It took us five minutes to get through security because there was no line. We got called in at 9:45. As soon as we got in the room, he swore us in. Then, he asked for our passports, all original birth certificates, and marriage certificate. He asked if this is our first marriage. After that, he just scanned the files he had and asked me the yes/no questions. That's it! He said there is no need to prolong the interview since ours is an easy case for him (with our son as the big living proof!). Since I had not received my EAD card that time, he told me that it would not be useful when I get the GC. He handed us the approval notice, showed us when and how to remove the conditional GC and explained possible citizenship application in three years.

The interviewer looked so serious at first but my son broke the ice, LOL. It was done so quick. I think we were in and out in only 10 minutes. I brought all supporting documents (even the-not-so-important-ones, just in case!) and organized it meticulously, with cover paper, highlights, labels and everything. But, he did not even asked for it. I still think it's better to be over prepared because it makes me feel ready and less nervous for the interview. An hour after the interview, I got an update that my GC is being produced. I have the USCIS case tracker app on my phone, and it helps a lot!
