same sex couple interview
Took almost 11 months from our filing date to be finally scheduled for the interview, Holtsville office is by far one of the most backlogged in the nation:-(
anyway, a little recap on our interview in Holtsville, NY yesterday, Got to the location, checked in, waited for about 30 mins before called in by a middle aged white/latin lady, not overly friendly, but courteous and professional. Specifically told me not to put all the documents we brought on her table until instructed to before swearing us in.
Asked for our IDs, We gave her my hubby's state ID and my passport, she asked why i don't have a state ID, to which i responded that DMV issues ID based on my EAD's expiration date, which is usually a year, so i didn't wanna bother this time around only to get an ID valid for one year, so she moved on to questions
The usual questions i've read before--- where , how we met , was there a wedding, when i told her, we met on Grindr, she grinned and commented on how she heard about the site, she did make a point about us being an "unlikely" couple which i didn't dare to ask her to elaborate on, nothing good could come of it lol.
after that, somehow the interview turned into less of a grilling process, she started chatting up with my hubby about his health issues and work he did. I attempted to cut in several times, but she seemed more interested in what my hubby had to say, lol..
One thing that made me feel really uneasy about is when she literally asked my hubby if i'm using him for green card purpose, and if he worried i'd leave him once i got it, which my hubby firmly denied because it's not true. but At that point, i was thinking to myself "omg, this is not a good sign"
she proceeded to ask for joint documents, so i gave her our bank statements, utility bills, when i tried to show her our joint credit cards and checkbook, she declined. Then pictures, she quickly flipped through them and picked about 4 to keep in our file.
then the interview went back to a little more casual conversation for a few minutes, last question was if i had committed crimes or been a terrorist, i said no and half-jokingly asked her if i looked like a terrorist, she went " you never know, it's always the innocent looking ones" lol...
she then said she would do a background check and we should hear something in a month. I was like " here we go, let the waiting begin again" Then when she was ready to escort us out, she said her next interview was canceled and commented how that might be just a fraud marriage....
On our way out in the hallway, all of sudden, she said congratulations, i had absolutely no idea what she was congratulating us on since she didn't say she had approved our case at that point. So I basically left the office feeling quite baffled.
so that's it, interview lasted 20-25 mins max, half of which was probably just casual conversation. We were never crosschecked about each other's name, birthday, etc.... most questions were directed at both of us.. never went through the yes/no questions and all the bio info on the forms. she didn't take my I-94 and didn't want my EAD/AP when i offered
