Adjustment of Status - I-485

This forum has been very informative and I hope my experience can also be helpful. My case is somewhat complicated. My husband entered the US thru JFK airport without any documents in 1995. Customs interviewed him and let him in with paperwork to appear in immigration court for exclusion proceeding. He applied for asylum at the time but was not successful and had a final order or exclusion against him and to voluntarily leave. He never left.

In 2013, we got married and started the process to adjust his status. According to our lawyer, because he was placed in exclusion proceedings and he was considered inspected and paroled into the US, he did not need to reopen his old case. We went ahead and applied for adjustment. This is our time line.

05/26/15              applications received
08/06/15              I-765, ordered your new card
08/07/15              I-765 approved notice
08/10/15              I-765, reopened your case and reconsidering earlier decision (was worried)
08/31/15              I-765, ordered your new card
09/01/15              I-765, approved notice (again)
09/03/15              I-765, mailed your new card
09/08/15              EAD received
12/13/15              interview schedule for 1/14/16
01/14/16              interview date at Federal Plaza, lasted about 30 minutes
03/17/16              I-485, ordered your new card (just over 2 months)
03/17/16              I-485, approved notice
03/17/16              I-130, approved notice
03/22/16 Card mailed out
03/24/16 Received green card in the mail

This was very stressful and I'm glad it is over.
