Our interview was scheduled in the morning at Federal Plaza in NYC, we arrived about 20 minutes early. My husband was excited and ready to go, I was more on the calm and cool side. The officer called us in about 15 minutes after we sat down. When we first walked into her office she asked us both to put our right hands up to swear in on oath. We all sat and she then proceeded to ask us for our Ids and documents of things we share. We presented her our bank statements, car/life insurances, military documents etc as well as our photo albums. She reviewed our documents, and first questioned my hubby as she simultaneously glanced at our pictures about how we met, how long did we date before marriage, when did we get married, and who was at the wedding etc. Most of the questions were directed towards my husband except for one or two that were directed to me. Lastly, she asked us to select 5 photos from our albums to leave with her to keep in our files.

The interview was finished in about 10-12 minutes, as she asked us simple and basic questions that we obviously were expected to know as a couple. The officer however was very frigid and serious upon first meeting but very polite nonetheless. Based on one of the questions, my husband was able to share a personal situation which softened the expression on her face a bit which was nice. She thanked us at the end and told us to have a good day and that we should hear something in the mail in about 30 days.

We were blessed and didn't have to wait the full 30 days because within 3 hours of checking the case status online that same day, it was updated to 'new card being produced' and then within another 2 hours it was updated to 'case is approved'. God truly was on our side throughout this whole process. Our entire process took exactly 6 months and we are so grateful and happy that we got through it.

Just an FYI, if your marriage is real, you have absolutely nothing to worry about, just prepare your documents carefully beforehand and answer the questions truthfully or as best you can.

Thank you to everyone who shared their journey which help to put people at ease throughout the process. I wish everyone the best of luck and God bless!
