Adjustment of Status Interview Minneapolis/St. Paul Office
After a long waiting period, my husband and I had our interview today. It went really smooth and I would like to share the experience with you all.
We started the process back in October 2015 and our priority date is November 5th, 2015. On march 28th we receive notice that our interview was schedule for May 5th at 9:00 am. So after having a mock interview with our lawyer, we gathered the last piece of extra evidence and this morning we were ready.
I was a bit nervous and I was not able to sleep very well last night, but we were as ready as we could be and we arrived to the USCIS office at 8:40 am. Our lawyer was already waiting for us in the lobby; we went through security and went to the waiting room. At around 9:10 am, we were called and the IO asked us to follow him.
We entered his office and he asked us not to sit down. He swore us in and then introduced himself. He got the I-130 form and asked my husband (US citizen) questions from it. He asked his legal name, previous name, DOB, address, his work place (and at this time our lawyer handed in the last 2 pay stubs of my husband), who was he petitioning (he asked for my legal name and then my previous name), my DOB, he asked if he had ever been married before, if he had any children, and finally he asked the day of our wedding.
He then started to go through our file, and started explaining that my residence will be conditional for two years and that we should keep on saving documents like the ones he was going through to take the conditions away. He then flip to the I-485 form and started asking me questions.
He asked for my legal name and my previous name, my DOB, address (and then he noted that me and my husband have been living together for about 4 years), he asked if I was working and where (at this time our lawyer handed him my last 2 pay stubs), he then asked me if I have ever had another visa. I said yes because the first time I entered the US was with a J-1 visa. He asked me if I was subject to the 2 years residency agreement to what I answered yes and I have fulfill it. He asked when was the last time I entered the US and I said I could not remember the exact day but it was last year on August before school started. I said maybe the 16th and he said no, that it was the 20 but no big deal. He asked about my parents name and then he asked if I have ever been married and if I had any children. I made I little joke and said not that I know of and then my husband added, ask us in two years and hopefully we’ll say yes. The IO laughed and after that the interview went smoother and with less stress. He then went through the yes/no questionnaire and ended up asking if we had any extra evidence we would like to hand in.
Our lawyer gave him a copy of all my I-94s and then we gave him our wedding album because we really wanted him to see it. He was very impressed with the album, he said that it was really nice quality and then we started joking about how pretty t was but that it was damn expensive. He started asking who some people were and we said our family, friends who came from Panama. He comment how beautiful the pictures were and what a nice day it was. He actually went through the whole book and that was really cool. After that he said that he was going to recommend our application for approval and that if the background check was cleared we should get a letter with the final decision in about 2 weeks and the card in 3 to 4 weeks. He explained the 2-year condition and reminded us to keep on saving evidence for the removal of condition. He told lawyer that we probably already have enough evidence to not have to worry for an interview for the condition removal, which I thought it was great. He printed a page that said he was going to recommend our application for approval and asked us if we had any questions. We said no, shook hands and left.
Our lawyer said it went well and we should not worry, but I still have questions. I am getting a little antsy because I have read that usually the status of the application changes online within a couple of hours and mine is still the same. How long will I have to wait until they actually approve the application? Also, could I still be not approved after this interview? Any comments, I would really appreciate it.

January 25th: Received my card on the mail
