Delayed AOS filing

I arrived in the US in 1999 on a k-1 visa. I got married within the 90 days but never filed for an adjustment of status. Should I just fill in the forms and apply now or seek out whether I can or not? I also havent found a way to find out about my status. Any advice appreciated.

However, don't leave US before your AOS gets approved.
