wot r consequences of abandoning aos?

I am in the US and came here on the Visa Waiver Program and my I-94 expired in Oct'05. I have an AOS and EAD pending since Oct'05. My husband petitioned for me. What will happen if I decide to return to my country of birth, and abandon my AOS and EAD in the near future?

Can I return to USA-:

1) Under the Visa Waiver Program?
2) by obtaining a holiday visa; or
3) Can I reapply for Permanent Residency and my husband petition again for me in the future? Can he petition for any children we have overseas?

Instead of all that trouble, why don't just apply for Advance Parole and continue your AOS application?

I am considering all options. I know Advance Parole is an option, but I am considering returning home for good as well. I am just weary of the fact that I might not be able to come back to the US for a holiday if I decide to withdraw my application for AOS.
