My father had his green card interview in California. I had applied for him in the family category. At the interview the officer asked a lot of questions. He did not approve the green card saying some more documents are required.
1. since my father did not have a birth certificate (we had submitted 2 affidavits) he asked for a non-availability of birth certificate from the municipal authorities in India. He said dont get it from the Indian consulate.
2. same about marriage. He wanted a non-availability of marriage registration certificate also from the indian magistrate.
He said to mail to docuemnts within 87 days directly to him and not to a general INS address as the file will stay with him.
Has anyone encountered such a problem at the interview. Do you need a lawyer at this stage to send the documents. The problem is that the indian authorities (new delhi ) are not willing to give a marriage non-availability certificate stating that it is diffcult to search the records. What can be done if we cannot get such a ceritificate.
