  • Are these valid forms of income to meet the federal poverty level?

Hi, since it will be just me and my fiance, then it should be a federal poverty level for a family of two correct?

Okay, so what I am wondering is if IHSS a form of income that can be used as a sponsor, I make about $800/mo. from the government by taking care of my disabled mother and brother for x amount of hours each week. Also, I do realize this is not enough to reach federal poverty level so I will need to add another sponsor, is it okay if they receive SSI, or is SSI not a valid income source for Adjustment of Status? The amount they receive is $893 each month, which would exceed the Federal poverty level for a family of two.

If someone can give me insight on this, it would do my mind a lot a good. Thanks in advance!

Your income and that of your co sponsor is not enough to satisfy form i-864. You will have to get another job/second job to boost your income. If you have assets then you could try to use those as well. You can try to find another cosponsor that earns more money.

Alrighty, thank you for that, and another question would be, is there any length of time I'd need to work that second job for before I would be eligible? And also, if I were self employed and generating income from online, would that count at all if I pay taxes on the income generated? And how long would I need to generate income self employed before I am eligible?

EDIT:: And would would be the total income monthly that would be needed?

To barely qualify for i-864 for a family of 2 you need to bring in at least $1700 per month. Not sure how long you would need to work second job or internet income for the USCIS to accept that. The reason we complete i-864 is to show the government that you are capable of taking care of the immigrant you have sponsored and that the immigrant will not become a public charge for at least 5 years.
