  • What do you do in your spare time?

    Hey everyone,

Obviously this post is not as important as other people need help with the application. However, I am curious how everyone is using their large amount of free time. I filed my petition in October and have not been able to work since June. It feels like I am wasting away. Anyone have any advice on keeping busy? I constantly keep thinking how to occupy myself and can’t do it. It’s starting to affect my sleep and eating habits. Anyways, any advise is appreciated it.

Most important thing is invest your time in eating healthy cooking goood food and GO to the gym . That what got me through like 6-7 months of waiting. No drinking no cigarettes no alcohol . You need a fit mind and body for this process .

      Patience

I understand your situation. Sometime it can be very boring. The only thing to do is keep yourself busy. Read books, to the library, take a walk ...etc.For one thing, you have to be patient after all it's not a life or death situation. If you stress yourself to hospital what will it profit? As long as you have food and shelter, the rest will follow with time. Which state are you filing from?

Well I have been working even before the process thanks to DACA so I actually did not have any free time haha. But I am jealous of those who go to the gym, I've been a power-lifter for like a year and I miss it. I also miss reading books. I sometimes play Forza 6.

I agree regarding healthy cooking and exercising!
Also, could do online training or read books on excel excellence/stock market/whatever will give you an advantage when it is time to find a job

I went and grabbed a moviepass, which lets you go see a movie a day for only $10/month. That and going to the gym. Them 2 things usually keep my pre occupied most days however hopefully the EAD isnt too far away as Im approaching 100 days since PD

Nice topic to take everyone's mind off of waiting. I might add if you like volunteer work there are many organizations who will gladly take you in. Some of them are your local county library or non-profit organizations. This is a great way to meet people and build your social network. Good luck everyone!

I agree with volunteer work. Not only does it help people, it is productive work that looks great on your resume

You can serve as a docent at a museum or the zoo. Feed the hungry in soup kit chens. Help out at the animal shelter. Train with your local volunteer firefighter or emergency response unit. Cuddle babies at the NICU (yes, that's a real volunteer position, of great importance). Conduct grassroot outreach or do office work for advocacy organisations and political campaigns (note that you can not contribute cash, see the limits at https://www.fec.gov/updates/foreign-nationals/ ). Teach immigrants English. Get trained by VITA to prepare tax returns for low income seniors.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I am filing from Kentucky. So, not much going on here specially since the weather kind of sucks this time of year. I workout everyday. I guess my concern is that I will not get hired anywhere after for not being able to apply what i have learned in school. Volunteering somewhere sounds like a good option. i will look what’s available.
