Should i file I 539 when waiting on I485 approval

You mean extending L2 status? It's not necessary to maintain status when you have a pending I-485. If you wish to spend money to extend L2 status you can do it if you want.

I-485 pending is not a "status". You can stay in the US if you have a pending I-485 regardless of whether you have a status or not.
