  • Interview today

Unfortunately, we didn't get approval on the spot. Our interview went for about 30-40 mins but mostly on checking documents, pictures and my medical. I thought I will have a problem on my medical because the doctor instructed me not to put a date when i signed it assuming they will be typing it. Anyway, the officer ask us to verify our name and date of birth, and where i lived before. He also ask me about my relatives who are in the US. He only ask my spouse 2 questions, how did we meet and where did we go on our first date. We didnt really go on a "date" we go out and we do things together but never really say lets go on a date or something so thats what my spouse told the officer. I was also surprised when he asked me the same question so i just answered the same thing and added we see each other whenever my spouse is off from work 2 times a week. The officer also ask us to name the person in our pictures. I was surprised again because he asked me to identify my sister, my niece and my nephew, i mean its quite obvious that its my family becasue Im asian and my spouse is white. Thats about it. He then handed us a receipt stating our case is being held for review and USCIS does not require any further information or documents from us.

Hoping to hear their decision soon with a positive result.

Thank you for sharing! I'm sure you'll get the approval soon, I hear not everybody gets approved on the spot.
I'm also in Chicago, just wondering did they ask you mostly basic questions? Anything out of the ordinary? Was the IO friendly? Any documents they looked at?
Sorry for all the questions, my interview is coming up too, so I just wanted to get a feeling of what's it like.

    Thank you!!

yes, only basic questions and the usual yes/no questions. our lawyer said that we have nothing to worry about based on the questions he asked us. I can say that he looked at every documents we have on that day. The only documents he didnt get was the copies of our identifications and the mail/receipts as a proof that we live together. oh and bring pictures with your family. he said "i dont need your pictures together". ha. it makes sense though. i cant say the IO is friendly but he is nice.

when is your interview? good luck to you and your spouse

I think that it's always worth asking:
            1. Did you enter the US on a k-1 visa and then filed for AOS?
            2. Did you submit ALL evidence of bona fide marriage at the time of filing for AOS? Did you send evidence fro
            3. Did you bring copies of ALL the evidence submitted AND copies of ALL the forms submitted?
            4. If no evidence was submitted, did it seem like the ISOs guard was up and suspected you were committing fraud? Did the tone of the interview change once you showed all the evidence?
            5. How did you stage your evidence? Did you craft a Table of Contents that included a brief explanation of what each piece of evidence is proof of?
            6. Do you commingle finances? If you commingle, did you describe what you commingle and HOW you commingle?

Not everyone is going to get the same questions. It matters if you are adjusting from a k-1 visa. Such applicants were already vetted at a US embassy. Consular officers have even more discretion than Immigration Services Officers. Their decisions are almost irreversible. If you're denied, it's best to just file again. K-1 AOS interviews used to be waived until recently. Even though, k-1 AOS applicants are now interviewed, those interviews are rather perfunctory. Most of the vetting has already been done.

The best thing you can do at this point is grabbing the bull by its horns and preparing for the interview. This thread has helped many. https://www.immihelp.com/forum/showt...interview-tips
I would follow the format of Emerald 2020's table of contents. Use full sentences. Don't just throw papers at USCIS. Tell them what the evidence is proof of.

            All the best,

            USCFFS

I think you should be fine and may get the approval soon based on your story.
I also had my interview in Chicago on Aug 13th and got an RFE during interview. IO asked for Supplement J which I found out as “not required” when filing I-140 and I-485 concurrently. Overall interview went well and IO was very friendly and cracked jokes at times. Instead of arguing/contesting, me and my attorney send the form the day after the interview via Fedex overnight and we got delivery confirmation. But until now the system is not even updating on whether they received the response to the RFE or not. I spoke to tier 2 USCIS officee by phine and told me that local office often times doesn?t update the system. I’m so frustrated and stressed right now on waiting for the outcome. BTW I’m on EB-2 category.

if you look at the case history - the "new card is being produced" came in first. So when i logged in to my dhs account. Id see the status "interview was completed and my case must be reviewed".

Pretty interesting to see given that I have had no progress so now I know what progress looks like (lol).

I know anxiety is killing you and you just want to burst in joy or tears - I can only imagine. Call and speak with an Immi officer, they may shed some light on your case. Everyone case is all unique.

Your GC soon be in your mail with approval letters for your I-485 and I-130!!!

I had exactly the same, first come "new card is being produced" and then all others and about in week I-130 changed to "case approved".
                            Oh wow. Really. Thank you.

Congrats on your green card! You should get it within a week or so. All the best,
