  • Request for Initial Evidence was mailed Form I-485

Hi Everyone, Today I received a message that ?Request for Initial Evidence was mailed? today. The petition is a USC petitioning a spouse. It is the first notice i received since the biometrics notice on June 29, 2018.

On October 29, 2018, we mailed a request for initial evidence for your Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, Receipt Number MSC1 **** **** *. The request for evidence explains what we need from you. We will not take action on your case until we receive the evidence or the deadline to submit it expires. Please follow the instructions in the request for evidence.

    My questions are:
What is to expect on ?Request for Initial Evidence was mailed? letter? Should i be worry?
Should i have already received the work permit?
Is it normal the time that is taking?

    Any input will help.

    Timeline:
    June 15, 2018 Received
June 20, 2018 Received Fingerprint fee for I-485
June 29, Notice to do Schedule Biometrics
    July 18, 2018 Biometrics Done for I-485 and I-765
October 29, 2018 Request for Initial Evidence was mailed

    Thanks!!!

I got the same update ob Friday. See my timeline. I am still waiting for the actual letter to see what it is about. It means something is missing from your file and USCIS requested the missing documents to be submitted. After you respond to the RFE, you should place a service request for the EAD since it is outside normal processing times.
RoC (I-751) Application, filed from Houston TX
10/24/2021 - USPS delivered the package in AZ
10/27/2021 - Text from USCIS with receipt number, check cashed. Assigned to the Texas Processing Center

INITIAL AOS from F-1, married to USC, filed in Seattle WA

09/24/2018 - Package delivered to PO Box (PD)
    10/22 - Early bio walk-in
11/15 - New card is being produced (I-765)
    11/26 - EAD combo & SS card
    01/13/2020 - Interview
01/23/2020 - Case Approved, Card Mailed.

Here's what the most common RFE looks like - it asks for the most recent year's tax return. Other RFE could be about translated versions of foreign birth certificates, missing evidences, etc. No need to worry, you will be given ample time to respond.

              Thanks!!!
Hi, I was in similar situation, they mailed RFIE for 485 after 5 and a half months after PD! Was not happy, especially when the mail was lost (as I found out usps returned it for some reason as undelivered and uscis didn't file it in their system) and at Infopass I found out they wanted tax return for 2017 which we included in original application...

So it is probably that or as other mentioned translation of some document.

I hope you will have it soon and let us know.

I actually received the same RFE that you posted, not sure why, if i sent the w-2 for my wife and my self and form 864 for my wife and 864A for my self (using my income as a sponsor). Since we filed the income tax as joint. I have requested the tax transcripts because i am reading that they prefer transcripts.

Is there anything else you think I am missing? What did you respond to your RFE?

                Thanks!

Is there any difference between RFE and RFIE? I got a RFIE because of my affidavit of support form was expired.
And this one you posted also reads RFIE, but you called it RFE. I am so confused...

I am telling you what I read from others, it's not 100% sure so don't take it as gospel. Rumor has it that RFIE resets the PD clock (aka your file goes back at the bottom of the pile) and that the RFE just stops the clock but does not reset it. I have no idea if it is true or not. I got the RFIE on pink paper for expired/unsigned/incomplete form I-864 (so they say).

SO , if you are not 100% sure why would you post it ? This is a serious situation for some, if not all of us , and sharing rumors is very very bad.

I got a RFIE and it did not reset anything. Every one?s story and timeline is different.
Similar story dejnadejnadejna has almost the same time line as me and read her story in part here https://www.immihelp.com/forum/showt...043#post587043

                      To NSTJ18 :

I also got an RFIE per original email stating RFIE was mailed and what I got the actual document in the mail it clearly reads Request for Initial Documents . Fast forward to when I gathered documents, mailed it back to Homeland Security and finally got the email from HSD it read in part :

?Your Case Status: Request for Evidence Response Review

On October 12, 2018, we received your response to our Request for Evidence for your Form I485, APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR ADJUST STATUS, Receipt Number **** **** **** . Our National Benefits Center office will begin working on your case again. We will mail you a decision or notify you if we need something from you. If you move, go to .... ?

I hope you see how they use RFIE and then later use RFE. I think they are the same! People are just creating in their heads that they are different and spreading rumors. Focus on your AOS ! respond rob RFE/RFIE as promptly as you can , send all documents they request, send it to the address that?s listed and you should be fine.

                      All the best !
