Interview experience on 24th Jan Tampa

Rough timeline for me:
-got married to my USC husband March 2018
-talked to an immigration attorney in Kansas City and decided to work with him in June
-got everything and filed on Oct 19, 2018 because we're such procrastinators
-missed biometrics appointment early November, rescheduled for late November
-interview ready to be scheduled mid December
-interview scheduled Dec 22, 2018
-interview on Jan 29, 2019.
Our interview was at 10am, we had a two-hour drive and arrived at USCIS at 9:30. The attorney was supposed to arrive at 9:45 so we waited for him before we handed the interview notice to the window. However, the security was taking a long time, so we checked in at 9:50 and when IO called me at around 9:57 lawyer was still stuck at security. I decided to just stand up and tell him that we need to wait for the attorney, which probably isn't the most polite thing to do lol. Anyways, he was cool with that and we walked into his office at around 10:05, got sworn in and sat down (me directly across the IO, husband on my left and lawyer on my right). He then asked for our IDs.
IO had a huge pile of papers in front him and I also brought four files with me. He went through what is going to happen during the interview and started asking husband his name, birthdate, our wedding date and mailing address. Also asked him about his eye color, hair color, height, his work and his parents' names. Then asked me about my name, birthdate, wedding date, wedding place (which I said xx county instead of xx city and lawyer and husband corrected me lol), parents' names. IO put our wedding date on the memo pad in front of him and that was the only thing he wrote down this whole interview.
We then ran into a problem because he asked me the date of my last entry and I gave something that was different from the I94 history. I was very sure about the answer and it was the same date on my I94 (There were just more records on the travel history that do not belong to me and do not make sense), so the lawyer went through that with him and we discussed about it for around 10 mins and I thought I was going to get rejected lol. IO then ended up putting the date I answered on the form, asked me to confirm the signature on the forms are mine and asked me to date one and sign another paper. He then asked about my work and then all the I485 questions. I took a minute to answer the what organizations have you joined question because he asked about sororities and I could not remember whether I put my sorority on there. So I told him about that and he did not write anything. Then all the killing people, terrorist questions.
After that, he asked us to tell him our story. I started with how horrible our first date was and it was back in 2015, then husband added more things on and lawyer wrote everything down. He asked questions along the way and then asked about what we did for the holidays so we told him about all the travelling we did in Nov and Dec 2018.
He then said I'm going to go ahead and approve this and talked about removing conditions, becoming a citizen, etc. He asked whether there were any questions. I asked for the stamp and my lawyer kinda freaked out lol. IO was really nice and said the GC should arrive in two weeks, but I talked about wanting to go see my parents and stuff so he said he's going to find his stamp and told us to wait outside in the waiting room.
We walked out at around 10:40. Thanked the lawyer, the lawyer said that he's going to let his office know about my weird I94 history because it's USCIS' fault. Waited for 5 minutes for the IO to get back to me and he put 3 months on the stamp and said he wasn't sure how long I was going to be gone. We thanked him and left.
Things that threw me off:
-IO did not ask for my new medical even though the lawyer received a courtesy letter about my doctor using the outdated edition of Form I-693.
-He asked for my birth certificate even though it was sitting in front of him in his pile of documents we submitted (I showed him the original one and he said oh I guess I didn't see it lol)
-He did not see any of the documents or photos I brought with me
-I thought KC office normally does not give approval on the spot
For reference, we submitted copies of the following documents to prove our bona fide marriage:
-joint vehicle title
-joint bank account
-lease with both of our names
-joint car insurance
-joint health insurance
-10 photos
Our backgrounds:
-he's working a mid-level job for a big corporate, I'm self-employed
-he's in his early 30s and I'm in my mid 20s
-first marraige, no kids
I totally did not expect this to be such a long rambling post lol. So I'm not going to proofread it cuz I'm lazy. Sending my best wishes to everyone on this forum!
Did your IO did same thing putting stamp on application.

I wore a grey sweater, black leggings and black knee-high boots. I think immigrants are from all socioeconomic classes so as long as you look clean and presentable you should be good. Wear something you?ll be comfortable in during nerve wrecking events too aka the interview. My husband started scratching his belly halfway through the interview and I was like wtf dude

some times it takes time to get verified. Also try using visa cards for free guide. It's useful.Last edited by saraparker; 11-23-2019, 03:59 AM.
