  • Interview on 7/24. Too late to mail I-693 medical exam?

Back in Jan 2019, my employer filed my I-485 alongside an old-ish medical exam (signed by the civil surgeon back in Aug 2018). The policy change which took effect in Nov 2018 should mean that my medical exam is no longer valid. However, I did not receive an RFE asking for a new one.

In order to be sure, I went ahead and got another medical exam this past week. Now I'm wondering if I should mail it to USCIS field office, or should I just take it with me to the interview on 7/24. If I take it with me during the interview, will it take USCIS some time to process it, thus delaying my approval?

My biggest concern: the final action date for my category (EB3 ROW) is current in July 2019, but will retrogress to 2016 in Aug 2019. As a result, I would like my case to be adjudicated as soon as possible to avoid being delayed to Oct 2019 and beyond.

bgfork I think it’s best to take it to the interview or mail it if they ask for it to be mailed otherwise sending it just like that could delay your process.

Do not send it to USCIS, bring it with you to the interview. I think that's the safest way to be processed before the end of the month. Good luck.

Edit: It took me too much time to answer, basically I said the same as love21_

I'd like to assume you asked for a 2nd copy of your medical results from the civil surgeon for your own reference?
If you did, this is my recommendation, mail out the sealed medical exam from the civil surgeon (certified mail) to USCIS and bring the 2nd copy with you to the interview.
The USPS certified mail guarantees you have complied with sending your sealed medical exam per regulation and the 2nd copy your will hand carry to your interview complies with the instruction you have received from USCIS.
Now if you dont have a 2nd copy of your medical exam, then for all intent and purposes hand carry that sealed medical exam envelope with you during the interview but print out a receipt and have the immigration officer receive it with their signature at the interview and you can say this is only for recording purposes for future reference, I'm sure that's a reasonable request and they will oblige.
        Good luck with the interview.
        Cheers.

My medical is also expired and got interview notice for August 9th. No rfe for expired medical. I decided to do new medical and will be taking certified sealed medical envelope with me for interview. I will recommend the same to you. Best of luck.

From what I read, people should not send new evidence/documents to USCIS if no RFE received. Some people mentioned that on their interview letter it say "bring medical form I-693 if not already submitted or if it has expired", don't know if that is present on all letters. Courtesy letters say to bring the form to the interview, in rare cases they RFE for form I-693 and ask to mail it.

Agree to all who suggested to bring the 'sealed envelope' in the interview.
In my case, I did not send I-693 when I submitted my I-485. Got a courtesy letter telling me to bring it to the interview or mail it 'IF' I receive an RFE. I never got an RFE so I brought my sealed medical envelope to the interview. The IO opened and checked it during the interview and included to my other papers. I was approved same day and waiting for the card. Good luck!

Thank you so much all! If the IO can approve my application same-day then I would just simply bring it to the interview. Was thinking of going back to my doc on Monday and ask for a second copy and mail it to USCIS field office (the one I'm going to in 10 days) just in case it would help with the processing time.

I don’t think dr can just give you second copy. They have to perform some tests and write new report. At least TB test. It’s Just my opinion.

I don't think they can give you another sealed envelope. If you send a copy that is not sealed it could hurt your case (my guess).

                      Hello,

Enub4 pardon me but I did not recommend that an unsealed copy of the medical exam be sent to USCIS.

And just for other's reference, my recommendations come from personal experience under an immigration lawyer's advise, I did get a second copy of my medical results (unsealed) with an original signature from the civil surgeon plus the sealed copy which was filed together with my 485. My comments are not to be taken as legal advise.

Congratulations bgfork for your successful interview.

                      Cheers.

Could the doctor give me another sealed copy using the same test result (done in early July) if I pay him some fees?

I will carry the I-693 in a sealed envelope to my interview on 7/24 for sure, but I just want to minimize any possibly delay by mailing the field office another sealed I-693 as well. Since the potential delay in processing could mean my GC won't come out until Oct/Nov due to end-of-year retrogression.

I don't know if they can do that, you will have to call them and ask.
I still is not a good idea to mail a sealed I-693 form if they didn't ask for it.

I ended up paying the doctor an additional $200 for basically the same form signed by him and put in a signed, sealed envelope. We did an extensive blood test the first time and he referred to the same test results

I have heard of cases where applicants are surprised at the end of their interviews that their I-693 is outdated even though they did not receive any notice from USCIS asking for it. So I'm being extra careful by mailing it to them before my interview as well as bringing it with me to the interview.
