If I’m approve on my green card, can ask the IO to stamp my passport? Or they only to do it if they want to? lol

I actually had this same question so I asked my lawyer a few weeks ago. They said that most officers now don't stamp passports even if they approve on the spot, and that to get a stamp you usually have to make a separate appointment at a USCIS office and told me it wasn't worth going through that hassle unless you had an urgent reason to travel. In my personal opinion this seems quite plausible given that at this point I've read through a lot of interview experiences on this site and others over the past few months and I can remember only one where the IO stamped the passport. It probably comes down to each IO, so who knows...

you need to have urgent travel requirement with proof, IO and supervisor will vet it to confirm the travel requirement is genuine and the proof is sufficient. unless you brought all the evidence for the urgent travel requirement and give it to IO and supervisor at the interview you will be needing a separate infopass appointment. Its a lot of hassle most IOs won't be willing to go through.

like mecurial7 mentioned i only saw one example in VJ in the past year of browsing. the guy needed to go back because of his mother suffering from terminal cancer and the doctors had nothing else that they can do. he made the post while booking flight tickets.

Hi - i am traveling soon and finally have my greencard in hand.

I was under the impression that as long as you have your permanent resident card in hand, you are free to travel and come back to the US? Can someone please verify if I need to get my passport stamped before leaving?

        Thanks.

Yes, that is correct. The stamp is for when you don't have the card and need to prove that you are a permanent resident.

Sorry - you mean it’s correct that all i need is my permanent resident card in order to travel, correct? No need to get the stamp?

Yes, you don't need a stamp. Like I mentioned, the only time you need to get the stamp is when you don't have the card, but you do have the card, so you don't need the stamp.

If you are approved on the spot, most likely your GC will arrive in a week. I guess, for most people, there is no need to get a stamp before they get the GC.
