If the company does not have it then it is unlikely it still exists. Most companies would NOT get rid of them though until its time to do it because in case the USCIS asks and the company can not produce it.

thamks for the reply. I am hesitant mostly because of the job I was sexually harassed at. That did not end well (they were mad I spoke up, and had enough evidence to shut the whole company down but at the advice of my lawyer due to my immigration status I took the payout) and I’m sure they will not be receptive or want to hear from me. It opens a lot of old wounds because it was a tough thing to go through but for the sake of my immigration case I’ll reach out to them.

i was just curious what would happen if they no longer had the i9. I didn’t know if the government have copies of those sent in by the company or something. Sorry if that sounds silly honestly I’m still not 100% sure how all of these American documents work lol

No the employers do not send a copy to the government unless the government requests it.

will they actually check with my old jobs to see what I filled out on the i9?
        (1) Did you switch accounts? Username is different.
        (2) If you indeed lied about being a USC and they found out, they won't care if you had no idea what you were doing at the time.
        (3) Is your lawyer worried about it? If not, I would just go with what they have to say.

I didn’t switch usernames.. only have one account. That’s so weird. Looked at the poster history and none of it is comments that I posted.. wonder if it’s some kind of glitch

re,2: I figured as much, that’s why I’m so worried. I feel so stupid and careless that I didn’t pay more attention to it. Still trying to get a hold of one of my old jobs.. the manager never seems to be there. I really hope they don’t have my file anymore since it’s past the time required to keep it.

re,3: my lawyer didn’t seem to care. He seemed so relaxed about everything and kept commenting how I will “have it easy” because I’m white and not from a poor country. But that didn’t put my mind at ease.. jsut because he views it that way doesn’t mean immigration will.
