  • I-485 interview, what now?

    Good morning!

My husband & i had our appointment yesterday with a IO in MT Laurel, NJ. Our officer seemed really nice when she came out to the waiting room & called my name. She took us to the room, told us to keep standing so we could swear we were telling the truth.

She then proceeded to ask for ID’s & then asked us each others birthdays. Of course me being so nervous, messed up my husbands birthday & ended up saying mine. I said sorry & corrected myself with his birthday. She then asked us how we met, asked our 2 sons names & our current address. Asked me what my husband does for a living. She did ask our previous addresses & I couldn’t remember (I do terrible under pressure). She asked to see marriage & birth certificates from our boys. Skipped through my file, looked through the pictures that were attached, & began to ask me the yes/no questions. After she was done, she told us “okay, you’re application is going to be submitted for review. You should get a notice in the mail within 30-180 business days”
She didn’t ask for further information, pictures or anything that I had brought with me for the interview. Has anyone been in a similar situation?

My husband & I have been together since 2014, married for 3 years & have 2 kids together. I really thought my passport would be stamped on the spot. I’m beyond nervous with how this interview went. I keep having anxiety about having to wait to see if we were approved. Also I’d like to mention i never got my work permit or ssn prior to interview. Our lawyer said our case moved fairly quickly after being filed & didn’t give time to receive them in the mail.

Update: I checked my status online this morning & it says they need more evidence. What happens now? Has anyone been through this?

You have to wait for RFE and do what it asks.

          Maybe it’s your medical examination?

Would this require a second interview?

I have a family member who had to provide proof of marriage. They got letters from the husband's dad and bride's mom confirming the marriage is legitimate. Sent in pictures, and everything they have joint that they had already brought to the interview. They didn't need a second interview. After sending in the docs, the wife received a 10 yrs GC.

So don't stress too much just wait fir the letter and send in whatever documents they ask you for.
