  • Is I-683 recommended with initial I-485?

Is it recommended to file I-693 - medical examinations and vaccination record- along with initial I485 filing for a marriage-based green card? I know it is not mandatory but I was wondering if I can do submit at a later stage (interview?)

    Thanks

Some people send it with the I-485 others wait for USCIS to request it, either with RFE or with courtesy letter (to bring it to the interview).

In our case, we don't know how long will take (EB) so we didn't send the I-693 with our package.

From what I read, most FB (marriage to USC) are approved within 10 months.

Some people may wait to do the medical to not pay everything the same month, the medical could be expensive in some areas.
Nov 2018 - Package sent - EB - Texas Service Center
Day 1 - Package received at the lockbox
Day 999 - Card delivered to me - Aug 2021

I believed you mean to refer to I-693 (Immigration Medical Exam). As far as my reading of the rules goes, an I-693 taken no earlier than 60 days from I-485 is valid and can be submitted along with the I-485.

However, an important consideration is if you feel that the underlying petition is guaranteed to be approved or not. If it is the latter, better to wait than spend the money on IME right away. On the other hand, if immigrant visa is guaranteed (e.g. for Immediate Relative of a US Citizen) then could be a good idea to submit it along with everything else (if feasible of course)

Hope this helps! Let us know how it went for you!

Does form I-693 have to be submitted within 60 days after it was done? I did mine 8 weeks ago but my lawyer still hasn’t completed my AOS package for USCIS.

I believe it’s mandatory at some point.

Yes, you can expect an RFE asking for it during the process. It’s a must have at the interview (if there is one.)

It is required with the form. However, the time of submission is a bit flexible based on when the medical exam is done. I would submit it with the application and prepare a second copy if the document may expire at the time of the interview. All the best.

                  10. Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record (Form I-693) Form I-485 applicants for adjustment of status are required to have a medical examination to show that they are free from health conditions that would make them inadmissible. This does not apply to registry applicants and individuals born under diplomatic immunity in the United States. If you are filing Form I-485 under the nonimmigrant fiancé(e), asylee, or refugee category, see the Form I-693, Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record, Instructions for more information on whether you need to submit the full Form I-693 or only certain parts because you already had a medical examination overseas. Only a USCIS designated civil surgeon can perform this medical examination in the United States. The civil surgeon must document the results of your medical examination on Form I-693. For more information on the medical examination, see the Form I-693 Instructions.

You are NOT required to submit Form I-693 at the time you file your adjustment application, but may do so if you wish. Because of the time-limited validity of Form I-693, you may choose to submit your Form I-693 after you file your Form I-485. You may also submit Form I-693 in person at an interview in a USCIS field office, if an interview is required. By waiting to submit Form I-693, you may avoid having to repeat the immigration medical examination.
