  • Fee issues, please help: adjustment of Status rejected for the second time

    Hello everyone,

My wife and I had our AOS package rejected for the second time due to incorrect fees. The first time we filed, we mistakenly included fees for the I-131 and I-765 forms. The second time, we filed all our forms and included

    1) One personal check of 1225.00 for the I-485 form and biometrics fee
    2) One personal check of 535.00 for the I-130 form.

We received our entire application back because both payments were rejected for the attached reason (image below)

This is so confusing. We dated our checks July 8th, 2020 and USCIS received the package on June 13th (processed on August 1st). The amounts were correct and the checks were filled out as per the USCIS website instructions. Is there something we are missing here? Should we use a different form of payment? We have one more chance to file as my visa status is going to run out soon and we want to make sure USCIS is able to process the payment.

Please any help will be greatly appreciated.

Aside from the smallness of the image, when did you say USCIS receive your application? JULY or JUNE?

We mailed the application on July 9th and they received it on July 13th. The checks were signed July 8th, 2020 (as per the month, date format) and the NOC was dated August 1st. Here is the text from the notice:

"The payment amount is incorrect, or has not been provided. Please review the Form Instructions for fee information. Please resubmit the application/petition package with the appropriate fees to the address listed on the bottom of this page

"The date on the check/money order you submitted is not current. The check/money order date either has expired or it is in the future. Please read you application/petition with a check/money order for today's date to the address listed on the bottom of the page

"The 'pay to the order of' line of your check/money order must be payable to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Please send your application/petition and fee payment to the address listed on the bottom of this page."

As I said, the personal checks were explicitly made out to U.S. Department of Homeland Security; two independent checks of $1,225 and $535 (for the I-485 and I-130 respectively) and dated July 8th (the date we signed all our forms!)

We are quite confused about this notice ????

Thanks if advance for any insight!

I asked that question cos myself like many others are used to the dd/mm/Yh format as compared to the North-America mm/dd/yo format.

at this point, my best guess is to:
                1. Call them to ascertain the rejection;
                2. Re-file the application and be certain to confirm the dates of the cheques. I know people who use money orders just to avoid this issue. You may want to look into that. Kr**** shops offer cheap money orders for less than a $1.

                All the best!

If able, you can also use your debit card possibly. I used BofA with my debit card & they charged ~4400 USD without issue to it. I used form G-1450. Just make sure your bank card is not limited to a lower charge than what the USCIS fee is and that your bank wont reject the charge, or use a credit card if able.

Hi, if you can afford it right away just go to your bank and get a cashier's check. That's what my attorney recommended to avoid common issues with card payments and personal checks, and it seems like a good idea based on all credit card horror stories I read in these forums. A USPS money order should work the same way.
