Depends where you are living. In Massachusetts you can apply for a license to carry or a firearms ID card once you get your green card. You should Google your home state and see what their requirements are.4-18-18 PD

You need the greencard. Its a FEDERAL requirement as a resident alien - which you will be when you have a greencard. Without it - regardless of state, you cannot legally purchase a firearm.
As for local state laws, you will likely be required to do a handgun safety course first (NY State as an example requires this) prior to the purchase of a handgun, for hunting rifles and shotguns it may not be required.Comment
