  • Questions about Change of Address

    Hi all,

We recently moved - same state, just different city. I have filed AR-11 on 8/26 and have not yet received any letter from USCIS. My case is updated to "ready to be scheduled for an interview" today (9/9) morning. I have informed my old address's landlord and am sincerely hoping that he will inform me ASAP if there is any letter from USCIS. However, he doesn't live there, and he doesn't want our friends to check his mailbox all the time. So, my hands are tied.

Is it true that USCIS will send a letter to the new address to let me know my address has been updated?

I am worried that the interview notice will go to the old address and/or the interview is scheduled in a city that I no longer live in. If that's the case, can I interview in the city that I do not resident in?

    Another question:

Does the USC have to send in I-865 as well?

    Thank you!

Follow this link to change your address with the USPS. Any mail coming to the old address will be forwarded to the new address. Also, download “informed delivery” app on your phone. It tells you every morning what mail you’re getting.

    good luck!

Don’t use the link in the previous reply! That will work but not advisable. That’s a third party that will do the address change for you but charge you way more.

Just google the official address change site and make sure it’s on the one on the USPS site (check the URL) - complete the form and it costs around $1.50 from memory and they’ll redirect your mail for a fixed period of time (I think 6 months)

I changed our address back in July (same city, different address) and got a notice a few weeks later that they'd received my change of address form. My husband (the US citizen) got his own confirmation. That said, I've heard that sometimes even after they acknowledge a change of address, they may still make a mistake and send to the old address. But let's hope that is exceedingly rare.
