  • Remote interviews?

I read on Quora that USCIS has started doing remote interviews (yay for technology!).

Has anyone had one or heard of someone who has had one? Which field office?

Ours was in a field office but the IO was not in the same room; we communicated via a desk mounted iPAD. Not sure how they would do remote interviews if they need to see original documents to verify them and rule out forgery.

Highly doubt the USCIS will let you take an interview from your house
Some USCIS offices have put up glass windows (like you see at an US consulate)
Some others have officers in another room while your interview is being recorded.
Opinion only. Cannot be construed as legal advice.

So maybe that is it. "Remote" but still at the office.

Based on the above comment, maybe I misunderstood the meaning of "remote" in this case. The guy who posted this on Quora claimed he's a systems engineer contractor working for USCIS and was behind the conceptualization of this system. You're probably right.

According to this guy, they are. He said about 200 a day. Of course, that doesn't mean much to individual filers because 1) We don't know how that compares to pre-Covid and 2) whether the individual office where your case is being processed is even open.

My office is open since June 4th. My applications got moved around to so many centers so now it’s at NBC apparently. We had an interview scheduled in April. Straightforward marriage based. It’s still a joke.
I have a valid H-1B until 2022 and I got my EAD 9 months ago

we did not stop working because of Covid ! We wore PPE and went to work.

I'm in a very similar situation to yours (except that my job is on a computer and I can work from home). I thought it should be straightforward, and here we are 13+ months later, and supposedly waiting for an interview since December 2019. I think part of that is bad luck and having to be processed at one of the busiest field offices.

I hope things move forward for you soon!
