  • SSN after 485

I have received my green card/485 approval notice but my 765 is still pending/in process which I assume will get denied. I had applied SSN for my daughter as well in the 765 application. What would happen to it now? Anyone been through the same boat?

If you have a GC and no SSN, then you need to go to your SS office (comply with Covid guidelines) and get your SSN.
Nov 2018 - Package sent - EB - Texas Service Center
Day 1 - Package received at the lockbox
Day 999 - Card delivered to me - Aug 2021

Thanks.. With Covid restrictions the SSA office is by phone only right now.. I was reading elsewhere that SSA would send the SSN card once uscis approved of the EAD, if they applied for it in the form 765. I was wondering what would happen in this case when i485 is approved but i765 is pending..

No. You probably need to mail in your green card to SSA to apply for the SSN.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

I have never seen someone comment that they approved I-765 after a GC approval, so I think your I-765 will not get processed so your information will not be sent to the SSA office to create an SSN card. As newacct said, if you need the SSN card before they open up the offices for in-person appointments, you will need to send your original GC to them by mail. I hope they open back for in-person appointments soon.

I have the same feeling as well; however I wasn't sure how the USCIS works. Hence wanted to check if anyone had a first hand experience.
Anyways I am trying to f/up with the SSA office in parallel and still waiting for a call back from them. They are phone only right now and hence the challenge.
